about
When I first read Psalm 123, the cry for God to have mercy on His people resonated strongly with me. Especially considering the world around us in the now-but-not-yet. When I sing through this one, I can't help but think about the coming kingdom of Christ and the contrast of the now in a world broken and distorted by sin and the promised reign of Jesus in the world made new. What a world we look forward to! But for now, we must know our hope is sure in Jesus folks, no matter what this world may offer or dish out - He hears us!
lyrics
Verse v1a/2b
to You I lift my eyes up
You who are enthroned above
so our eyes look up to God
until He has mercy on us
Pre-Chorus v2a
behold - watch the eyes of a servant as he looks to his king
come close - hear the heart of the wounded as we cry out for relief
Chorus v3
have mercy upon us
we have had much more than we can stand
Bridge v4
our soul has had more than enough
of scorn from those who are arrogant
and the contempt of the proud and
those indifferent to all of our suffering
